Authorities have initiated a phased withdrawal of additional police personnel from Rawalpindi, Attock, and Mianwali. This decision comes as the security situation has stabilized following a period of heightened alert, particularly concerning the PTI long march and sit-in, and in a broader context that included the imposition of an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However, the specialized Anti-Riot Management Force, positioned in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to counter unrest, will remain deployed at their current locations until further directives.
The extra police units, originally deployed to manage potential disruptions during the PTI's long march and associated sit-ins, will be returned in three distinct phases. The initial phase of this withdrawal commenced on Monday evening. Concurrently, efforts are underway to remove the temporary containers and barriers that were put in place at various points.
According to sources, a significant number of additional officers were mobilized for these security operations. More than 29,000 extra personnel were deployed in Attock, approximately 22,000 in Islamabad, and over 5,000 augmented the district police forces in Rawalpindi.
The schedule for the police withdrawal was developed through consultations with relevant senior officers. Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) have all granted their approval for the procedure governing the return of these police contingents.
Officials have issued directives emphasizing the importance of thoroughly documenting all personnel, vehicles, and equipment before their return. Furthermore, while the additional forces are being withdrawn, authorities stressed that overall security arrangements and operational preparedness must be diligently maintained. The Anti-Riot Management Force will remain stationed to ensure that adequate measures are in place to address any unforeseen emergency situations.
Commending the continuous service of police officers and personnel during this challenging period, officials instructed that the phased withdrawal process be conducted safely, efficiently, and in a well-coordinated manner.
