A recent special report by the United Nations Secretary-General has once again brought to light the dire humanitarian situation and severe human rights abuses prevalent under the Afghan Taliban regime. The report highlights a persistent state of insecurity, widespread poverty, and the continued imposition of illegal restrictions on the fundamental rights of children and girls across Afghanistan.
The findings from January 2023 to December 2025 reveal an alarming surge in serious crimes committed against children. During this period, more than 4,582 incidents of severe offenses against minors were recorded. Disturbingly, over 1,415 of these cases involved children being killed or left with permanent disabilities. Furthermore, the report indicates a staggering 81% increase in incidents where children were recruited and utilized for combat operations within Afghanistan, underscoring a deepening crisis for the nation's most vulnerable population.
